Entry requirements: 

  • Be 18 or older and
  • have completed Year 11 or equivalent with suitable English language skills.
  • A working with children check is required for work placement and for gaining employment.

Due to the mandatory work placement requirement, eligible students who wish to study CHC30121 must undergo and satisfy Working with Children Checks. This should be done during orientation to provide approval before the first industry placement. You must ensure you have a valid working with children’s check. Each state has a different renewal requirement; for example, A NSW Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance is valid for five years. Check with your state’s requirements.

To work as an early childhood teacher in a preschool, you will need to complete a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or a Diploma in Early Childhood and Care. 

You do not require a bachelor degree to work as an early childhood educator. However, if you wish to pursue primary school teaching and be an early childhood teacher in a primary school, early childhood teachers require University-level education and further study.

At the heart of the National Quality Framework (NQF), which governs the regulation, assessment, and enhancement of early childhood education and care, ACECQA is an independent national authority.
